What To Expect

If you have already scheduled your first appointment or are considering scheduling an appointment for your child with Dr. Brent Caple, there may be some questions you would like to ask us. We are happy to answer your individual questions at any time. For a step-by-step guide to what a regular visit at Dr. Caple’s office looks like, take a quick tour of our office to see where and how the magic happens!

Here are answers to some commonly asked questions by parents. We hope the answers here will be helpful to you and to your child!

  • You can play a large part in preparing your child for his/her first visit to the dentist. Try to act relaxed and at ease. Any anxiety on your part will probably be sensed by your child. Tell your child that we will "count" and "take pictures" of his/her teeth. Do not use any fear provoking words such as "hurt, drill, pull, and needle." Avoid statements like "the doctor will not hurt you". (If I say to you, "Don't think of a banana!" what is the first thing you think of? A banana! It's the same with the word "hurt.")

We will thoroughly explain each of our procedures to your child in terms that he/she can understand before we do it. We will invite you to the operative area so that we may review your child's history, diagnosis, or specific problems. Be assured that we will treat your children with as much care and concern as we treat our own. However, some children will cry as this is a normal response to a strange situation.

At this visit we will emphasize oral hygiene techniques to be practiced by both you and your child. We will answer any questions you may have. A full examination of the teeth and supporting structures will be done and occlusion (bite) will be evaluated. Radiographs (x-rays) will be taken as necessary (not routinely) to assure a thorough and comprehensive examination. Depending on the age of your child (usually 3 years or older), a prophylaxis (cleaning of teeth) and fluoride treatment will be performed. When treatment has been completed, your child will be placed on a periodic exam schedule, and you will receive a reminder card when the visit is scheduled.

  • At the conclusion of your child’s examination, Dr. Caple will discuss what he’s found and what treatment he recommends. Please feel free to ask any questions about your child’s oral and dental health or the recommended treatment plan during this time.

  • At the office of Dr. Brent Caple, we believe in honest, transparent treatment plans. We like to call this our “No Surprises” approach to pediatric dentistry.

If Dr. Caple has recommended a treatment plan for your child, you will be provided with an estimate for that treatment plan before you leave the office. Our patient coordinator will be available to answer questions about payment methods and treatment scheduling as well.

  • Dr. Caple accepts assignment of benefits for dental insurance plans. Accepting this assignment lowers the patient portion due at each appointment.

Dr. Caple is in-network with Delta Dental.

If you have any questions about assignment of benefits or insurance coverage, please call our office. Our insurance coordinator will be happy to work with you to maximize your benefits.

Dr. Caple also accepts the following forms of payment: cash, check, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Full payment or insurance estimated portion is due at the appointment.

Dr. Caple sees patients ages birth through 17 years.

The parent or patient representative is welcome and encouraged to come back with his or her child at the appointment.

Dr. Caple offers morning and afternoon new patient appointments.
